Top 6 non 2018 albums of the week
Occult noise unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Some of the most bizzare metal I’ve ever heard, some of it barely resonating as metal at all. Anyone a fan of the underground 80s stuff needs this right now.
9.25/10
2. Oath of Cirion – King of the Dragonthrone
One of the most well composed symphonic black metal demos I’ve ever heard. It’s actually bizzare how much this sounds like a legit movie soundtrack, the guy who made this knows his theory well. I went on a mini binge of sympho black demos last week, and this topped them, one of my favorites ever to be honest.
8.5/10
3. Blood of Kingu – Sun in the House of the Scorpion
Roman Saenko is great, and nearly everything he does is great. Not much else really needs to be said about this, a good album for those who want some blackdeath stuff that isn’t sellout music or corny orthodox stuff.
8.25/10
4. Ildjarn – Forest Poetry
I like this more for what it represents than what it I guess truly is. This is in my mind, the logical conclusion to raw black metal, and maybe black metal as a whole. It is the closest the genre has come to anti music, while still retaining most if not all of the traditional black metal conventions. Musically it may not be the most interesting of adventurous, but if the words trve black metal mean anything, it would be this album.
8/10
5. Frostland Darkness – Sign on Inverted Cross
Went on a huge obscure raw black metal album binge, and this was my fav from that. Thinner than an anorexic model, but it just has this indescribable atmosphere that just feels right to me. Lots of black metal comes down to that in my opinion, just slight differences in timbre and mood that make all the difference. Part of why I love the genre honestly.
8/10
6. Unholy Kill – Znamení hoří
Another one of the raw black metal albums I binged through. You know the album is good when the drummer goes crazy and all you hear is just rumbling noise.
7.75/10
